# Enter Love

This week we light our Advent candle symbolizing Love. We enflame a wick that was cold and dark and infuse it with the power that comes with fire. In our house we also celebrate week two focused on the promises of God, especially as it relates to the promise of Messiah and the Love that is exemplified in his coming.

When we watch the news, Facebook or twitter feeds it is clear that our culture, government, communities and even some of our friends may have forgotten what love is. But the God of creation has not forgotten. He *is* Love. John the apostle made it clear that "whoever does not love does not know God, *because God is love*" (1 John 4:8). Love is this beautiful thing that is only evident in its purest and most perfect form in God himself. It is He who brings out the very nature of love in all of us, John makes this staggering fact clear to us when he says in the same paragraph that "love comes from God". He puts into flame that which is cold and dark just like the burning bush that brought Moses to his knees. It's the same passionate love that burns so brightly before Moses and before the entire Israelite community as He led them through their wanderings in the wilderness and finally at Mt Zion. The same love that brought Jesus into the world. And it is the same passionate, intimate love that he has for His prodigal children like you and me.

The Father sent his only son into a world that would condemn him and crucify him. It's because of his passionate love for us, for all of us, that this promise of a sacrifice was made knowing what lied ahead. The passionate love of the Father in heaven embodied in a baby who would exemplify the apostle Paul's clear statement in 1 Corinthians 13, "Love never fails".

Advent embodies a promise of a baby who would save his people from their sins - from themselves, and this is pure, perfect love.

I do not hope in broken promises or empty words. I hope in a promise keeping God that loves me. The only God that promises to mend the brokenness and heal the hearts of people that thought themselves completely lost. I look to a Father in heaven, who, in His perfection sent the greatest love offering this world has every seen. He sent Jesus even with the foreknowledge of what was to come. That is love. Born to a virgin and laid in a feeding trough for shepherds to welcome. Yes, I believe that this is the perfect example of love entering this world and it brings me to tears because I know that I am unworthy.
