# He Will be with You

I was lost in a snow storm. Driving down a highway in horrendous snow squalls with no idea where I was. The roads, snow covered, lost their directive markers. The wind flying toward my front windshield creates a fear-filled, mesmerizing experiencing that dulls my mind and could easily have put me to sleep.

That snow coming so quickly, blotting out sights of trees and pavement, made me dizzy and terrified and completely disoriented. I couldn’t have told you where I was.

Have you ever found yourself in a snow storm? Have you ever found yourself in a place without borders or boundaries, lost and disoriented? 

Sometimes we find ourselves in life situations with poor visibility, the way is covered and we can’t see a way forward, a way at all.

Jesus says in those times to trust him. Not to be afraid, not to lose heart, not to let the world and the lies of the evil one penetrate our hearts. He is with us.

He promised to remain with us, even giving us the Holy Spirit to guide and comfort us, that we would never be alone. Fear often comes when we feel like we are alone, emptiness entangles us when we feel like we are without help. 

But Jesus tells us:

***“Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”***

***Matthew 11:28***

That rest is found in him. Meaning, we are not alone. The entirety of Psalm 23 echoes this truth, that our journey is with him. He is always with us. He tells us point blank before he is taken up in to heaven:

***“And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”***

***Matthew 28:20b***

This nearness and concern is found in the Old Testament too, when God displayed his care for his people by providing his presence and guiding them with a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. 

He gave them direction, a way to go when they were unable to see past their last steps. He not only brought them out of Egypt, but through the Red Sea and the wilderness, to finally find rest in the land of promise. 

Jesus doesn’t leave us hanging. He chases us, comforts us and doesn’t leave us stranded in the desert or in a snow storm.

We may not be able to see the end from the beginning but he can.

In the snow storm I reached out for the only hope I had, Jesus. I called out for him to guide me to my destination, and eventually I found my way through the snow. 

I crawled. I prayed. He guided me. But most importantly, he remained.

It often isn’t the plan or destination that really brings us to our knees, it’s that we feel like we are out there by ourselves. The disorientation comes when there is seemingly no foundation, the chaos ensues when we lose our footing, our fear and loneliness come when we forget He has been with us on the journey from the beginning.

He is with you on the journey of grief and pain. He is with you on the journey of repairing relationship, of reaching out to others. Jesus is with you in the thick of it.

He will see you through to the promised land. To the destination he has you fixed on but can’t see or experience yet. 

The journey may be long, but he is present with us every step of the way.

He will see you through the journey and in the process demonstrate over and over again how much he loves you.

The paths we walk and journey along are not easy. But it is in sharing those paths with Jesus that joy finds its place and hope is rekindled.

Have hope in the chaos and uncertainty. He walks with you. He will direct your paths and if you trust him, even when you can’t see where you are going, he will bring you home. 

***“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”***

***Deuteronomy 31:8***
